STUDIO INTERIOR VASE IN THE WABI-SABI STYLE

Bizen / Shigaraki ceramics. Second half of the 20th century

Ceramics; high-fired unglazed yakishime firing, natural ash deposit.

Estimate

8 000 – 12 000 ₽

    Dimensions

    height — 14.5 cm.

    Description

An original interior vase of spherical, squat form with a short, graceful neck and decorative lugs. The piece displays expressive tectonics and a deliberately rough texture of fired clay, markedly granular, with scattered dark inclusions of iron oxides. The surface is covered with a natural matte bloom of mustard-brown tone, skilfully imitating the noble kiln-ash deposit in the tradition of the celebrated Japanese kilns of Bizen (Okayama Prefecture) or Shigaraki (Shiga Prefecture). The shoulders of the vessel are decorated with restrained, symmetrical “mimitsuki” loops. Collector's condition.

    Marks

On the unglazed flat base of the vase — a clear, hand-incised maker's mark, close in form to the sign “ヤ” (katakana ya).
