- Description
An intimate night view of the shopfront of an old Japanese shop specializing in the making of traditional paper lanterns (chochin). The composition is masterfully built on the interplay of deep black shadows and white space imitating the soft inner glow of the lamps through paper shoji screens. The artist cut calligraphic character inscriptions and ornaments on the displayed lanterns with filigree precision.
