Description

An artist’s interior vase of spherical form by Kunio Uchida (1910–1994), an outstanding master of postwar Japanese modernism. The surface of the body is decorated with a dense, flowing namako (“sea cucumber”) glaze with an expressive fine-grained texture. Lively shifts of golden-brown, coffee and dark tones create a deep optical effect and underscore the noble glossy sheen of the piece.
