CABINET VASE “SHUNRAN” IN RUBY GLAZE

Estimate

15 000 – 22 000 ₽

    Manufacturer

    Koransha (香蘭社). Japan, Arita.

    Material

Porcelain, high-fired ruby glaze (“oxblood”), decoration in gold leaf (kinsaiKinsai / Kinrande 金彩 / 金襴手 — a refined technique of hand-gilding ceramics and porcelain with gold leaf or liquid gold pigment, followed by a fixing firing.).

    Dimensions

    Height — 15 cm.

    Description

An exquisite porcelain vase of squat, spherical form with a short neck. The surface is covered with a glossy ruby-red glaze, technically very demanding, with a refined mirror-like lustre. On the front, the canonical subject is painted in gold — a blooming wild orchid (shunran), its stems and buds finely drawn in thin lines. The rim is accented with a classic gold line. The vase embodies directly the principal symbol and philosophy of the manufacturer.

    Marks

On the base — the manufacturer's orchid mark and the characters 香蘭社 (Koransha), executed in gold.
