- Description
A high-level collectible graphic work created specially for the prestigious annual exhibition “Kobe no Hyakunin Shikishi Ten” (“Exhibition of One Hundred Kobe Artists on Colored Paper”). The composition is a lyrical architectural view of the famous “Moegi-no-yakata” mansion (the former residence of the American consul general, built in 1903, in the historic Kitano-cho quarter of Kobe), recognized as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The virtuoso technique of watercolor sketching is complemented by fine linear strokes of ink. The delicate pastel coloring is built on noble olive-green and soft yellow tones, which gave the mansion its historic name (“moegi” — the color of young spring greenery).
- Marks and provenance
In the lower right corner of the front is the artist’s original ink signature: “M. Fujisaki”.
On the inner backing under the frame, the original exhibition annotation by the artist, giving the location and title, has been fully preserved. The work is presented in a strict mat and a wooden frame under glass.
